Looking Good and Feeling Good

There is no denying that hair loss can be traumatic at any age and given a choice everyone would rather keep their full head of hair.

By using Pro Hair Biosystems, ProFusion system we aim to help you retain your hair and prevent hair loss.

However, we also want you to know that hair loss is not the end of the world as your hair is only one part of your overall presentation to the world and is certainly not the most important part.

First you need to think about how best to present your hair to the world. If your hair has already started thinning significantly, you need to go to an experienced (and often expensive hairdresser) and get them to cut your hair in a style that minimises the impact of hair loss.

“A style that mimimises the impact of hair loss”....how can you do this? In fact, the human eye is actually drawn towards imperfections which is why cartoons and charactertures work, as cartoonists stress unusual features in an individual. This works for your hairstyle too.

In the past, people who were losing their hair tried to compensate by growing the existing hair longer, or (unfortunately) tried a comb-over, to cover the balding area. This actually did the opposite to what they wanted to achieve as it drew attention to the balding area, which was a sudden 'imperfection' in the person's hair.

An extreme hairstyle is to shave your head or have a no.1 or no. 0 haircut. This may seem odd, that shaving your head avoids people realising you might be losing your hair, but actually a shaved head or a very short haircut does not present any imperfections – your head looks the same all over. So someone's eye is not drawn to the imperfection.

A less severe alternative is to ask your hairdresser to keep your hair short and taper your hair into the bald area so the eye follows the general taper to the hair-free area and this merges seamlessly with the area with hair. So your hair has an overall smooth appearance and the eye is not drawn to the balding areas.

Most important of all is to keep your hair clean, neat and tidy, unruly thinning hair that looks unkempt will not be doing you any favours.

To exacerbate the situation, some people have a habit of mentioning traits about their appearance that bother them. For example, people who are not very tall, frequently do this. Please don't! Never draw someone's attention to a part of you which is not your best feature, for a start they might not have noticed. However, once you do mention this to them, they will notice. What you want to do is bring everyone's attention to the parts of your appearance that you do want them to notice. The parts you feel good about.

It is important to feel good about yourself

Consider all of your assets, your height, intellect, skin, dress sense, sporting attributes (in fact anything you are good at) and build on your strengths and assets and do not concentrate on the parts of your makeup that you are less happy with.

So if you are tall and slim and skilled at what you are doing, there are three strong assets to build upon, relatively speaking, the fact your hair may be thinning is not important.

Dress smartly and spend some time and money on your appearance. If you dress well, groom well and even smell good, this adds hugely to your overall impact. Your hair is simply one part of your overall message to the world.

It is important that you don't to compare yourself with people who have what you don't have. For example short people may in their own mind compare themselves with tall people, people of average intellect may compare themselves with very intelligent and highly qualified people.......don't! There is no point in wishing for physical attributes that you haven't got....so never concentrate upon your weaknesses.

Instead, self analyse and decide what life has given you that you like! It may be that you are slim, humorous, artistic, have nice eyes, find it easy to talk to people, sporting, cultured or well educated. Whatever is important to you, build on those strengths and do not take them for granted. So when people meet you, they are left in no doubt as to what you bring to the world.

In life, people admire or relate to people with the same skills and beliefs as they have and the converse is also true, people usually cannot relate to skills or qualities in a person that they do not have or are not interested in. For example someone who is a skilled writer and can write in an interesting or amusing way is never going to impress someone who never reads anything unless they have to. Similarly a skilled artist is not going to impress someone who has no artistic appreciation.

But if you meet someone who you have plenty in common with, someone who thinks along the same lines as you and is usually at a similar level of intelligence, you will probably get along fine. That other person will evaluate you against the qualities that are important to them.

In a lot of cases, when men lose their hair, they are concerned upon the effect this might have on the opposite sex or they may even fear losing their partner as well as their hair. This is often a state of mind rather than anything to do with hairloss. If a man becomes depressed and generally unhappy because of his hairloss this depression is more likely to be a reason for a problem with relationships rather than the hairloss itself.

People accept other people for what they are. Hair loss is traumatic by virtue of the fact it is a change in appearance and is unpredictable. But it is distressing to the man losing his hair and not to the people around him.
